I see posts go by periodically about how modern audiences are impatient or unwilling to trust the creator. And I agree that that's true. What the posts almost never mention, though, is that this didn't happen in a vacuum. Audiences have had their patience and trust beaten out of them by the popular media of the past few decades.

J J Abrams is famous for making stories that raise questions he never figures out how to answer. He's also the guy with some weird story about a present he never opened and how that's better than presents you open--failing to see that there's a difference between choosing not to open a present and being forbidden from opening one.

You've got lengthy media franchises where installments undo character development or satisfying resolutions from previous installments. Worse, there are media franchises with "trilogies" that are weird slap fights between the makers of each installment.

You've got wildly popular TV shows that end so poorly and unsatisfyingly that no one speaks of them again.

On top of that, a lot of the media actively punishes people for engaging thoughtfully with it. Creators panic and change their stories if the audience properly reacts to foreshadowing. Emotional parts of storytelling are trampled by jokes. Shocking the audience has become the go to, rather than providing a solid story.

Of course audiences have gotten cynical and untrusting! Of course they're unwilling to form their own expectations of what's coming! Of course they make the worst assumptions based on what's in front of them! The media they've been consuming has trained them well.

not being a furry should be a little embarrassing i think. i'm not saying it's bad to not be into furry. but there should be a stigma

there comes a point in some dudes ceramics careers where they start fucking with glazes so hard they spend their weekends hand digging rare minerals out of a desert deposit or a friend's multi-acre lot so they can grind them up and put them in a glaze. I know at least three guys that do this.

I also knew this guy derrick who was an absolute beast on the wheel (threw an entire 40pc porcelain serving set w/ cups bowls plates serving dishes and casserole dish in ONE HOUR) who also rented out a backhoe so he could dig clay out of his yard and refine it. Unfortunately it had too many inclusions in it so he had to dilute it with industrially made stuff. when he did that though he found that the clay in his yard, when fired, produced it's own glossy green glasslike ooze that vitrified during firing. he called it "self glazing clay", and went back that day to go dig up more. hope hes doing well. I imagine he's excavated his entire property by now

In the future, children will think our ways are strange. "Why do old people always grow so much milkweed in their gardens?" they'll say. "Why do old people always write down when the first bees and butterflies show up? Why do old people hate lawn grass so much? Why do old people like to sit outside and watch bees?"

We will try to explain to them that when we were young, most people's yards were almost entirely short grass with barely any flowers at all, and it was so commonplace to spray poisons to kill insects and weeds that it was feared monarch butterflies and American bumblebees would soon go extinct. We will show them pictures of sidewalks, shops, and houses surrounded by empty grass without any flowers or vegetables and they will stare at them like we stared at pictures of grimy children working in coal mines

We will be feeding our grandchildren strawberries and raspberries we grew in our gardens, dragging them along to the farmers' markets for tomatoes and eggs and goats milk and pickles and pecans and salsa and sunflower seed butter and jars of honey, as they complain and drag their feet because Gramma always stands around talking to people for like an HOUR

and we will say "When I was YOUR age, fruits and vegetables came from a supermarket and they were bred to get shipped 1000 miles in a truck and sit on shelves for weeks, and they tasted so sour and watery it was like eating paper compared to these ones. It wasn't even legal in some places to grow your own food"

and they will roll their eyes like yeah yeah just because everything was miserable in the 20s doesn't mean I have to have a smile on my face standing in the hot sun while you listen to that one guy talk about his bees FOREVER

• drake is super bi with no preference and he’s huge in denial about it so he’s convinced himself he just keeps launchpad around because it’s good for his ego. i’ve also seen the trans headcanon around a lot and WHEW yeah. there ain’t nothing cis about that man
• launchpad is also bi. i think he has a preference to guys and a lot of his friends are raging lesbians. idk how to explain it i just feel like at least half of his mentioned “old girlfriends” are his lesbian buds from biker gangs or bowling clubs or whatever launchpad gets up to in his free time. cue the “wait a minute, there’s something bothering me about this place… i know! this lesbian bar doesn't have a fire exit!” bit etc etc
• gosalyn is going to grow up to be a badass she/they lesbian with rage issues and we’re so proud of her <3

• ngl i don’t spend much time thinking abt negaduck but i’d say he’s pretty much just like drake in most respects
• gizmoduck is like?? straight trans man maybe? it’s hard to tell bc i haven’t seen much of this verison of him yet and his character is pretty simple so far so idk. it’s free real estate as far as i’m concerned

perhaps more hcs to come as i watch more of the show and i will probably be updating some of these tbh. it’s too early to tell for some of them
